How We Keep It Sustainable: Our Promise at Myco Threads

At Myco Threads, sustainability isn’t a finish line or a label we slap on a hangtag. It’s an ongoing process of asking better questions, making more thoughtful choices, and being honest about where we still have room to improve.

We’re a small, independent brand born in Southern California and shaped by the places we love to explore - from the coast and climbing wall to the trail and campsite. Our goal is to create clothing that feels good to wear, earns a lasting place in your rotation, and is produced with greater care for people and the planet.

Here’s what that looks like today.

More Thoughtful Materials

We prioritize products made with organic, recycled, and other responsibly sourced materials whenever those options meet our standards for comfort, durability, performance, and print quality.

Depending on the specific garment and manufacturer, materials may be verified through recognized third-party standards such as:

GOTS - Global Organic Textile Standard: Covers certified organic fibers along with environmental and social requirements throughout applicable stages of textile processing.
OCS - Organic Content Standard: Verifies the presence and amount of organically grown material in a product and tracks it through the supply chain.
GRS - Global Recycled Standard: Verifies recycled content and includes additional requirements related to processing, chemicals, and social practices.
RCS - Recycled Claim Standard: Verifies recycled material and its chain of custody.
OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100: Confirms that a textile has been tested for specified harmful substances.
PETA-Approved Vegan: Indicates that a participating brand or manufacturer has certified eligible products without animal-derived components.

These standards do not all measure the same thing, and not every certification applies to every Myco Threads product. Certifications are associated with specific garments, materials, or manufacturing partners, so we include relevant material information on individual product pages whenever available.

Our fulfillment partner requires suppliers in its designated eco-friendly apparel collection to provide valid third-party documentation for organic or recycled material claims. You can learn more about how Printful verifies these materials.

Made When You Order

Most traditional clothing is produced in large batches based on predicted demand. When those predictions are wrong, unsold inventory may be heavily discounted, destroyed, or discarded.

Myco Threads uses an on-demand production model. Instead of holding large quantities of finished clothing, an item is generally printed or embroidered after you place your order.

Made-to-order production isn’t waste-free. It still requires materials, energy, packaging, and transportation. What it can do is reduce the need to manufacture large amounts of speculative inventory before anyone has chosen to buy it.

It may take a little longer than pulling a finished item from a warehouse shelf, but we believe producing more intentionally is worth the wait.

Supporting Carbon Removal

Shipping clothing still creates emissions. Funding carbon removal doesn’t make those emissions disappear, but it allows us to support projects working to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere while broader transportation systems continue to improve.

Through Shopify Planet, estimated delivery emissions from participating orders are used to determine contributions toward vetted carbon-removal projects. Depending on the removal portfolio, these projects may use approaches such as:

Direct air capture
Mineral-based carbon removal
Biomass carbon storage
Enhanced rock weathering
Soil and ecosystem restoration

Shopify purchases carbon-removal credits from projects it evaluates for its climate portfolio. The specific mix of supported companies and technologies can evolve as projects develop, deliver removals, and undergo further evaluation.

Carbon removal is not a substitute for reducing emissions at the source. We see it as one part of a broader effort that also includes avoiding unnecessary inventory, selecting better materials, improving product longevity, and helping customers care for what they already own.

Designed to Stay in Rotation

A garment’s value isn’t defined only by what it is made from. It also matters how well it performs, how often it gets worn, and how long it remains useful.

As Myco Threads grows, we’re working toward a collection of versatile pieces made for movement, travel, and everyday adventure. Our aim is to create clothing you’ll reach for repeatedly - not something designed around a trend that disappears next season.

We encourage our community to:

Buy thoughtfully
Wear pieces often
Wash only when necessary
Follow garment-care instructions
Repair clothing when possible
Rehome usable pieces when they no longer fit your life

The longer good clothing remains in use, the more value we get from the materials and resources already invested in making it.

Transparency Over Perfection

We know that no new garment is impact-free, including ours. Organic and recycled materials still require resources. On-demand production still creates some waste. Packages still need to travel. Carbon removal is still a developing field.

We would rather acknowledge those realities than promise a version of sustainability that doesn’t exist.
